『砥部むかしのくらし館』の玄関脇に1本のカイヅカイブキが下屋の屋根を突き破って植えてあります。それはこの街筋の新しいランドマークになります。
カイヅカイブキ、学名Juniperus chinensis L. ‘Kaizuka’ヒノキ科ビャクシン属中国、日本を原産地とし漢名を「龍柏」。
実はこの樹齢100年を超えるカイヅカイブキは①「旧豊島医院」の玄関わきに建築当初の昭和31年に植えられたものです。以来65年、いまでは樹齢100年を超えた古木です。今回の道路拡幅にあたり、なんとかこれを残せないかと考え、2020年10月に「旧豊島医院」から「新・砥部むかしのくらし館」に移植しました。この玄関わきの鬼門にカケをつくり鬼門封じの役割を持たせました。また足元には梅野2代目の梅野春吉建と名前の残る石標を建てました。
『砥部むかしのくらし館』には「夜着回廊」と呼ぶ「夜着」の展示場があります。その壁の外側には、見慣れない形のオブジェが5本、植えてあります。なにか有機体のような形状で、長い歳月をなにかの役割をして過ごしていたように思います。
じつはこれは「登窯」の中で磁器を焼く際に置台とした「天秤積」と呼ばれる治具です。梅山窯の「大登窯」で使われた物です。「登窯」の中で何度も何度も高温で焼かれ、釉薬や灰をかぶり、それはハッとするような独特の風合いを生じています。すでにほとんど残っていない「天秤積」はとても希少なものです。この砥部焼の「登窯」の時代の職人たちの姿に思いを馳せることにします。
Moved Juniperus Chinensis and Tenbinzumi

A 100-year-old tree was planted at the entrance of former Toyoshima clinic when it was built in 1956.
We were somehow able to move the tree from Toyoshima clinic to New TOBE OLD DAYS LIFE&ART MUESUM due to widening construction of public roads in Oct. 2020.
We cut of the corner of side entrance to taboo the unlucky quarter and put stone maker that says built by UMENO Haruichi, second generation of Umeno Pottery, at the foot of the tree.
There is a space called “Yogi corridor” to display Kimono-like quilts.
You can find five sculptures along the wall outside of corridor. It has a shape like an organism and seems to be played some kind of roles for long days. Actually, those are tools called “Tenbinzumi” used to put porcelain in climbing kiln. They were baked in climbing kiln over and over, covered in glaze and ashes, turned out to show us breathtaking unique texture. Tenbinzumi is rare and almost nothing remains. Those sculptures make you imagine the lives of Tobe ware potters when climbing kin was active.
