「商家」ですが通常は母屋と呼ばれていて建築当初は本社営業所とて「蔵」を出荷倉庫として稼働していました。本社機能を「梅山窯」に隣接させ昭和25年から「豊島医院」として「商家」は生まれ変わり、地域医療の重大な役割を担いました。この「商家」には京格子があったのではないかと推測され、「格子再生」の計画をしていました。
そんな時に蔵の壁面にかかる収蔵物を退けていた時に、大きな2枚の格子が発見されます。おおよそ60年の歳月を超えて現れた格子は、まちがいなくこの「商家」の象徴的なものでした。
写真は工事中のものですが、アルミ枠のウインドウを外し発見された格子を補修しながら取りつけました。これでほぼ100年前の姿が再現できました。この地域に古い町の佇まいが戻ってきて、心温まる風景が再現されつつ『砥部むかしのくらし館』もその役割を担っていきます。
Discovered Lattice
Merchant house was called Omoya(main house). Omoya was used for ahead office and Kura was for shipping warehouse. They moved head office next to Baizangama and merchant house was renewed into Toyoshima clinic in 1950. The clinic played an important role in local healthcare.
We had an idea to revive lattices as we assumed there were Kyoto style lattices in this merchant house. During that time, big 2 lattices were found from the wall behind other collections. These lattices were symbol to the merchant house for over 6 decades.
